To me, Jiraiya is one of the characters that gave the Naruto storyline some life, actions, and throw in some words of wisdom. Jiraiya, the complete mirror image of what Naruto is now back in his days encounters the same mishaps and experiences as Naruto. Don't believe me? 1, he has a teammate who had gone from good to bad, then bad to worse. Jiraiya-Orochimaru. Naruto- Sasuke. 2, he used to be as worse in techniques as Naruto. Check out the flashback when they had their training using the bells back in their days. Naruto and Jiraiya both got tied up to the pole with no lunch. Muahaha. 3, check out their characters, being bossed around by the kunoichi in their team, Tsunade and Sakura, and both being loudmouths. So? Need me to say more?
Hence it is clear that Jiraiya knows what lies ahead of Naruto, especially when he had the Kyuubi in his body which is hunted by the ominous Akatsuki. So he takes him on training where, according to Naruto, was a merciless training period. Muahaha. But without this perverted hermit, Naruto wouldn't last so long. Obsessed with women, and writing the erotic and ethnically challenged trilogy and side stories of the infamous 'Icha Icha Paradise', Jiraiya spends his times behind screens and bushes, 'collecting data' for his novels. Much to Naruto's disgust, Kakashi and Ebisu's pleasure, he is somewhat never caught. Well even if he did he would have escaped... So next time when you're in a hot spring or somewhere where the dress code is a little out of the ordinary, for girls, beware.
